Berries & Flowers

Berries

I took this photo in Laurie's backyard in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, several years ago. Back then I took most of my digital photos on the smallest size, which is too bad, because I'd love to print this out and hang it up in Katie's room.

Now that she has her own room, I'm thinking about covering one of the walls of her room with huge framed flower/plant photos. Maybe this and this and this and this. And this one of Grace's. This one is already hanging on her wall.

I'm having another melancholy day. I don't know why, and I'm sure it will pass, but if you have any cheery words for me, I'd love to hear them.

Kiss the baby

Kiss the baby
Originally uploaded by jessamyn8470.

Geoff and Katie came downtown on Monday to have lunch with me and some out of town friends (Hi, Misty!). It's a treat to get to see my baby in the middle of the day.

Things are fine, the weather is nice, and our apartment is feeling homier since we moved Katie into her own room. My job is going well, Geoff and I are getting along wonderfully, and I love being a mother.

But I'm a little sad today. Sometimes in the middle of a work day, I wish I could kiss the baby. I miss her.

(Geoff took this picture. See that fringe of short hair around my hairline? It's left over from being pregnant. When I was pregnant, I lost very little hair (this happens to pretty much all pregnant women), and then about 4 months after Katie was born, all of the hair that would ordinarily have fallen out during the previous 9-13 months or so (if I had not been pregnant) fell out all at once. Now that it's growing back in, I have weird fringes of new (white) hair. I don't much like it. Oh, well.)

Uh oh

Big Smiley Katie

Enduring much frustration and emerging victorious, Geoff lowered the crib mattress today. Then he put Katie in her crib.

Moments later, as his back was turned, he heard a trimphant "ththththththththtth" coming from behind him. When he turned around, he saw Katie STANDING in her crib, holding onto the side, looking very proud. Uh oh. We're in for it now.

(Have I mentioned that she does actually crawl now? And that from lying down, she can roll over into an upright sitting position lickety split? And that the stereo, DVD player, TiVo, etc., all seem to be exerting an unnatural and powerful force of attraction upon her? And that she has given herself her first bruise by doing a face plant on the hardwood floor? And that already, only 6 1/2 months old, and she is not really all that interested in cuddling with me anymore? WHERE DID MY HELPLESS LITTLE BABY GO?)
